Dan juga dikenal sebagai "Advance Fee Fraud" yaitu menipu agar pengguna internet membayar biaya dengan harapan akan menerima pengembalian yang jauh lebih besar. Namun kenyataannya penegembalian itu tidak pernah terjadi.
Sekarang para pejabat Nigeria telah meluncurkan "Proyek Eagle Claw" untuk mengambil tindakan keras terhadap masalah tersebut. Mereka telah melakukan sejumlah penangkapan, tetapi program ini tidak diharapkan sepenuhnya berlaku sampai tahun depan. Farida Waziri, Ketua Nigeria Ekonomi dan Komisi Kejahatan Keuangan (EFCC), menjelaskan dalam sebuah konferensi di AS pekan lalu bahwa mereka bekerja dengan Microsoft untuk menyebarkan Project Eagle Claw.
